About this Event
ONLINE: Emergency Preparedness & Response
Please note: This is NOT the training required for the Health & Safety trainings. This training is required for one designated staff member per site and pertains to the site EPR plan.
The NC Child Care Commission approved new rules that went into effect on July 1, 2015. The rules require that all licensed facilities complete the Emergency Preparedness and Response in Child Care Training.
An administrator or designated individual of a current program must obtain training. When an administrator or designated individual is no longer employed at the site, a new designated individual must attend this training within four months of hire.
Through this training, you will develop an EPR Plan that includes:
- Written procedures for accounting for all children and adults
- Relocation and reunification plan
- Communication plan
- How the program will meet the nutritional and health needs of children
- How the program will meet the needs of children with special needs
- Ready to Go File
The goal of the Emergency Preparedness and Response in Child Care training for early educators is to provide early educators with the information, knowledge, and tools to prepare them for many types of emergencies. The training curriculum provides a structural framework that covers the key issues involved in emergency preparation, response and recovery. It discusses the decisions and information that will guide the completion of the EPR plan. The EPR in Child Care training creates an opportunity to engage early educators in professional development and build their capacity to provide safer and better quality early care.
Early educators who complete the course will:
- Understand the five phases of EPR
- Know how to comply with the NC Child Care Rules that pertain to EPR
- Be prepared to complete their facility’s EPR Plan
- Be ready to review the EPR Plan with staff members and families
