About the Event: Mother and daughter, Sue and Katie Wighton have always loved Ella Fitzgerald (who doesn’t?) and making music in general.
Sue has been singing around Brisbane for longer than she cares to reveal – gigs at the Brisbane Jazz Club and lunchtime concerts at the Brisbane City Hall with the wonderful, late Clare Hansson, solo folk gigs, as well as gigs with her own bands.
Her daughter, Katie studied jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium – winning the James Morrison Jazz Prize in 2007. With her band All Our Exes Live in Texas, Katie won an Aria in 2017; her latest solo album, The End, was nominated for an Aria in 2023.
This show features jazz standards made popular by the inimitable Ella Fitzgerald. As well, Sue and Katie will throw in a few surprises … originals and favourites. Their onstage banter and warmth, along with their impeccable musicality make this show the perfect treat.
They’re joined by some of Brisbane’s best: John Reeves (keys), Andrew Shaw (double bass) and Steve Francis (drums).
Separately Sue and Katie make terrific music. Together, they’re dynamite!
