Edgebrook Walking Tour
About this Event
REGISTRATION AVAILABLE BEGINNING AUGUST 16TH
Chicago for Chicagoans is delighted to announce the return of our walking tour exploring Edgebrook! Led by area native and urban planner Matt Weiss, this tour will explore one of the city's fringe northwest side neighborhoods that's teeming with greenery and quiet, cozy streets.
Beginning at the SE Corner of Devon & Kinzua, the tour will cover local history, architecture, and landmarks of the area -- from the historic homes of Old Edgebrook, to the North Branch Trail System, to the thriving mom & pop business districts along Devon and Central Avenue. You'll discover how this proudly "still Chicago!" community relates to its suburban neighbors, ponder the history of local schools and grocery stores, and admire the murals adorning the railroad viaduct that bifurcates the area. The afternoon will end near Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream (a neighborhood favorite since 1962), where participants are encouraged to grab a sweet treat with their fellow tour-takers.
Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too! We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans.
