When was the last time you actually practiced deploying your DSMB?
We’re running a DSMB deployment workshop to brush up on one of the most important – and often neglected – dive skills.
For many dive sites, a DSMB is a crucial piece of safety equipment. Boat traffic and current are two common factors that can turn a simple dive into a more complex one. Boaters don’t always realise divers are below, and current can easily move you further from your entry point than expected.
Deploying a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy before you ascend alerts boats and surface support to your position ahead of time. It also gives you a visual reference for your ascent and can be used to hold your safety stop when there’s current or limited reference points.
This workshop is a chance to get comfortable with deploying your DSMB, talk through different techniques, and get some real-world practice in the water.
It’s also a free workshop — the goal is simply to get the local dive community together and encourage safe diving practices.
All certified divers are welcome.
Bring your DSMB and spool if you have one. If not, we’ll still run through the skills and talk through the different setups.
This workshop is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are unsuitable.
See you there!
