Ever dropped something overboard and thought “well… that’s gone forever”?
Lost anchors, dropped gear, and objects disappearing on the bottom are a pretty common part of boating and diving. The good news is that with the right techniques, many of these things can often be recovered.
We’re running a Search & Recovery skills workshop focused on practical techniques divers can use to locate and recover lost items underwater.
The session will cover basic underwater search patterns to help divers systematically locate objects, followed by a demonstration and practice of the safe use of lift bags to recover items from the seabed.
During the workshop we’ll work through:
• Simple and effective underwater search patterns
• Communication and teamwork during a search
• How to safely rig an object for lifting
• Proper lift bag deployment and control
• Using lift bags to recover a lost or stuck anchor
Like many diving skills, these techniques improve with time in the water and repetition. Training doesn’t end when your certification course finishes — continuing to practice and refine skills is what builds confidence and competence as a diver.
This workshop is all about getting hands-on with practical skills that divers don’t always get to practice during regular dives.
It’s also a free community workshop, aimed at bringing local divers together and encouraging safe diving practices.
All certified divers are welcome.
