(Wednesdays July 1 - August 5) A 6 week session of C uban Modern Technique & Orishas/Afro-C uban Dance with Anara & Javier of MetaMovements, accompanied by live percussion! Attend all Wednesdays or just drop in when you can!
6:15–7:15 PM – C uban Modern Technique
C uban Modern Technique is a unique training method developed in 1960s Havana to train dancers for C uba’s national companies. It blends Modern Dance with C uban dance traditions such as Orisha, Congo, Rumba, and Flamenco, while incorporating elements of Ballet and Tai Chi. Through structured exercises and expressive movement, this technique builds strength, flexibility, and artistry while honoring C uba’s cultural roots. It remains a core part of dance education across styles in C uba today, often known simply as “La Clase Técnica” or “Danza.”
7:15–8:15 PM – Orishas / Afro-C uban Dance
This class introduces dances and rhythms from C uba’s African-rooted traditions, with a focus on the Orishas of the Yoruba/Lucumí tradition and other Afro C uban folkloric forms. Through movement, music, and cultural context, students explore the stories, energies, and expressive qualities that have shaped C uban dance for generations. Accompanied by live percussion, the class fosters a deep connection to rhythm, community, and cultural heritage.
