Feeling like your mood and energy levels are lower than usual? Trying to cope with microaggressions at home, work, or out in the community? Looking for resources to support a friend who is struggling? Or perhaps you're curious about how the brain works, and want to understand how it plays a role in depression and anxiety? If any of these resonate with you, you are cordially invited to join us for a collaborative workshop with Justin Kalinay, M.A., Full Spectrum's Director of Community Engagement, and Dr. Pernille Yilmam, Founder and CEO of Mind Blossom, a nonprofit specializing in delivering mental health education to underserved communities.
Dr. Pernille Yilmam holds a PhD in Neuroscience and has a long personal story of serious mental illness, and she founded Mind Blossom to share knowledge and resources around mental health that are proven to enhance people's wellbeing, resiliency, and community.
The goal of this training is to provide participants with not only knowledge, such as minority risk factors and warning signs for depression and anxiety; but also actionable tools you can take with you, such as mindfulness techniques and a cognitive reframing exercise. We will also be providing a local and national resource sheet, alongside contact information for local queer-friendly mental health specialists and organizations.
Let's come together to break open that Pandora's box of a brain and converse openly on mental health, as well as the unique barriers present for minority identities. For as Ralph C. Smedley states: “Understanding comes through communication, and through communication we find the way to peace.”
PLEASE NOTE: To keep this workshop as in-depth and interpersonal as possible, there are only 20 seats available. As such, please use the Regfox link in the description to purchase your ticket and hold your seat.
Considering the importance and relevance of the subject matter (the U.S. attorney general has declared a "mental health epidemic"), we have reduced the price to only $10 a ticket. Tickets will remain on sale until the day before the workshop, but walk-ins will ONLY be accepted if seats are still available; and we would prefer to fill the seats as quickly as possible to print materials and order enough food for everyone. Thank you!
