Community Mending & Crafting Session
About this Event
We’re excited to start offering a Community Mending & Crafting Session! We hope this will become a new monthly offering. We are grateful to the wonderful folks at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home for supporting our community-building initiative by graciously offering us their space.
Bring your torn jeans, half-finished knitwear, broken treasures, or any craft project you’ve been meaning to get back to. Whether you’re an experienced maker or just figuring things out, come fix, make, share skills, and chat together.
No project? No problem! Come have a cup of tea, meet some neighbours, learn something new, or simply spend some time making alongside others.
What to Expect
🧵 The Repair Station
A shared table stocked with needles, thread, patches, fabric scissors, and other supplies for simple textile repairs.
✂️ The Maker Space
Bring whatever you’re working on — scrapbooking, sketching, knitting, jewelry making, or something entirely different. We’ll have table space and power outlets available.
🧶 The Supply Swap
Have leftover yarn, fabric scraps, buttons, beads, or other supplies taking up space at home? Bring them along to swap, share, or give a new life to someone else’s project.
🍵 Tea & Snacks
There will be tea, and you’re welcome to bring a snack to share with the group if you’d like.
✨ Feature Project / Skill Spotlight
This month's feature project is offered by Mandy, the Linux Lady, with Simple FOSS (and Halifax Repair Café). She will offer a Linux Repair Cafè for people who's (old) laptop can't go "up to 11" and would like to explore a way to keep them running. In this workshop, you can learn about, try, and even install Linux Mint to help reduce ewaste.
At the end, we’ll take a few minutes for a casual show & tell — a chance to share what you made, fixed, learned, or worked on.
Need a little help getting here? Bus tickets are available at the event.
Accessibility note: This location has lots of parking and is near a bus stop. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected] or ask our active community on our Facebook page.
Come for the mending, stay for the making and the company!
