The 2026 Nova scotia's Knifemakers build challenge is a Tanto,
this is going to be pretty open to the builders interpretation but it must fall into this guide lines.
Style - can be traditional or modern
Blade length has to be between 10"-12"
Mono Steel
Take Down - all main components should be able to come apart for judging.
Have these components- Tsuba, seppa, Hubaki and Saya
Tsuba is a hand guard
Seppa is a small metal disc traditionally used to secure the hilt onto the saya
Habaki is a blade collar
Saya is the scabbard
This challenge is all about design, fit and finish. the overall design and how the parts work together is where the building creativity comes in whether going traditional or using a more modern mindset is up to the builder.
all work has to be sole authorship... aka only one person works on each piece.
there will be a small fee to enter, this is to help with prizes and hosting costs. usually $10-$20.
Blades must be presented in person by the builder on the day of judging, end date is mid Sept to early Oct.
