Climate Fest: Birds & Bees Urban Habitat Tour in Downtown UI Campus

Birds and bees alike depend on native prairie plants to survive. The University of Iowa has helped increase the amount of native habitat for Iowa City’s flying friends by planting pollinator gardens throughout the downtown campus. This year, UI was recognized for their work when they received an esteemed Bee Campus designation. In a parallel effort, the Iowa City Bird Club provides recreation and education opportunities to teach about the countless bird species that call Iowa City home. The club also played an integral role in Iowa City’s recent Bird Friendly Community designation.
Meet us at the One Earth Mural for a walking tour of UI’s downtown campus that highlights its many pollinator gardens and local bird species. As an added bonus, the Campus Arborist will be present to identify local tree species and speak about UI’s Tree Campus designation. Choose between two tours, one during the lunch hour and one following the end of the workday. Both will follow the same route and feature similar content. Please note that the walk includes some hills and stretches with limited shade. Participants should dress comfortably, wear appropriate walking shoes, and be prepared to be outdoors for the full hour.
