After a short AGM, Chris Bond will give a talk on how Christianity came to Pocklington in A.D.627 and next year is the 1400th anniversary that will be celebrated by the York diocese. The image shows King Edwin of Northumbria who was converted to Christianity in a.d. 627 by Paulinus the missionary from Rome. York Minster is built on the place of his baptism which was where the Roman fortress headquarters building (the principia) was located. The meeting is organised by the Pocklington & District Local History Group and entry is free of charge and held in the old court house in George Street at 7.30pm on Thursday 16th April.
