York has a reputation for having a pub for everyday of the year. Find out about some of the oldest as well as the people and events associated with them. Inquests, riots, politics, plagues, religious influence, bizarre entertainments and strange auctions, York's pub history provides a strong picture of the social life of the city.

The guide is an experienced volunteer city guide.

Laura 2023 " Had an amazing tour today with Keith. He was so engaging and seemed to know just about everything that had happened in the city for the last 2000 years! Any questions we had he knew the answers to and it's the best city tour I've ever been on. Thank you so much for an amazing day!"

Walks start from YO1 7LG at the junction of College Street and Goodramgate. Tours last for approx. 2 hours, (2.5 with an optional refreshment stop, subject to suitable space being available).

Fiona Laing: i weekend December 2021

"They say there is a bar for each day of the year in York. They come in all shapes and sizes and there is even a walking tour, which traces their history, some dating back to the 16th century. Keith Martin will share his passion for York's oldest pubs in return for a donation to Keep Your Pet a charity which helps people keep their animals at difficult times"

All funds raised go towards supporting Keep Your Pet, a charity scheme run by Age Uk York. This project has been established to help older people look after their pets at times of health or other difficulties. For further information use the following .
