About this Event
York: Women, Witches & Warriors Ghost Walk — Part I
Daily at 8PM | Intimate groups (max. 10 guests)
When the bells hush and the streets begin to shimmer, the Women of York rise.
You are invited to follow their footsteps.
Led by storyteller and performer Sasha Elizabeth Parker, this one-woman immersive ghost walk weaves through the shadowed lanes and golden-lit corners of York. Part theatre, part history, part whispered secret—these are stories where truth and myth dance closely together.
This is not a tour.
This is an encounter.
Meet the women who shaped this city—through power, passion, defiance, and devotion:
✨ Walk beside Cartimandua, the Celtic queen who kept the peace… until love turned to war.
✨ Glimpse the fate written in the stars of Julia Domna, Roman empress and architect of her own destiny.
✨ Be guided by the Ivory Bangle Lady to her resting place, and step into the stillness of Lady Isabel German, who chose a life enclosed in faith.
✨ Stand before Minerva, goddess of wisdom and drama—whose presence still lingers where she is remembered… or forgotten.
✨ Wander York’s former red light district and hear the voice of Mary Jane Sutherland, a woman history tried to silence.
✨ Witness the courage of Josephine Butler, who fought fiercely for women’s rights over their own bodies.
✨ Meet the echoes of more recent lives—Sarah Coggles and Victoria Bage—and the stories they leave behind.
✨ Come face to face with Jennet Preston, condemned as a witch, and decide for yourself where truth lies.
✨ Stand in the shadow of Margaret Clitherow, York’s martyr, and feel the weight of her choice.
✨ Hear the bold, beating heart of Anne Lister—Gentleman Jack—who loved unapologetically.
✨ Discover the quiet world of artist Mary Ellen Best, and where she found beauty in rain-soaked days.
Each step is a thread. Each woman, a story. Each story, a mirror.
✨ Starting Point: Outside Bennett’s Café & Bistro, 30–32 High Petergate, York
✨ Duration: Approx. 75–90 minutes
✨ Audience: 15+ (mature themes)
✨ Group Size: Maximum 10 guests for an intimate, immersive experience
Expect tales of bravery, mystery, magic—and the kind of truth that lingers long after the night ends.
