Practicing yoga involves more than just doing postures on the yoga mat. Karma yoga or Seva – which means selfless action – is also an important part.
Doing 108 sun salutations has a special meaning and is often performed as a ceremony. The ritual becomes especially powerful at the full moon. We do it as a donation-based charity event where we raise money for the organisation V-Care in Mysore, India.
108 sun salutations take about 50 minutes to complete, but it is optional if you want to do all 108 or just a selection. You can invite a partner/friend and do half each as a team, bring the family and split the sun salutations among you or challenge yourself to do them all. The class is done in silence with the breath as the guiding instrument. Afterwards we have tea and “fika” together.
Ashtanga Yoga Malmö has been supporting the organisation V-Care in Mysore, India for several years together with Yogashala Stockholm. V-Care works for social change, strengthening the rights of girls and children, and giving children from the casteless groups education and a better future.
