Cauldron of Inspiration: The Gundestrup Cauldron and the Imagination

I shall be speaking to Norwich Pagan Moot on the subject of the Gundestrup Cauldron on 12th July (at 7 p.m.; £5 cash admission). This two-millennia-old silver bowl, made in Thrace (Western shore of the Black Sea) and found in a Danish peat bog, is covered with imagery from Europe and Western Asia, linking 'Celtic' and Indian cultures. It has inspired a number of flights of fancy, not least the appropriation of the antlered figure as 'Cernunnos' (he may or may not be a deity and is very much like ancient images from the Indus Valley). I shall talk about the history of interpretations and explore the rich cultural diversity and mythic inter-connections portrayed on this enigmatic survival from the ancient world.
Also, I recorded a podcast with Val Thomas about it all! This is available on the £5 tier of my Patreon channel. https://www.patreon.com/ickeny/posts/gundestrup-161327299
