BioBlitz @ Lakehead University

Join the Lakehead University Department of Biology for a weekend of community science! From Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13, 2026, we're inviting everyone to help document the biodiversity of the Thunder Bay campus.

A BioBlitz is a race to record as many living things as possible: plants, insects, birds, mushrooms, and everything in between. Every photo you snap becomes part of a real biodiversity record of your corner of Ontario. No experience needed, just curiosity and a smartphone.

Optional in-person kickoff: Friday, September 11, 9 AM–12 PM. Meet near the Lakehead University Hangar by the pedestrian bridge for guided walks, hands-on ID help, snakcs and an info table.

Prefer to go solo? The BioBlitz is self-guided all weekend. Head out any time and explore lawns, tree lines, gardens, trails, ponds, and building edges all great spots to find life.

How to take part:

1. Download the free iNaturalist app and create an account.
2. Join our project: BioBlitz by Lakehead Department of Biology.
3. Photograph anything living, let the app suggest an ID, and upload the photo.
4. Keep going all weekend every observation counts!
