About this Event
In this beginner-friendly Iyengar Yoga class, we explore both asana (ppostures) and yoga philosophy, giving you a complete and grounded introduction to yoga. No matter what yoga style you practiced prior, in this class you’ll learn how to use your body safely and effectively, how poses are meant to feel, and how yoga extends far beyond the mat.
Iyengar yoga complements and enriches any yoga practice. Iyengar is known for its precise alignment, detailed verbal cues, and creative, supportive use of props: blocks, straps, blankets, so you can invite yourself into the pose, not force it. These tools make yoga accessible, deeply educational, and surprisingly empowering, no matter your age, flexibility, or experience level
For vinyasa style yoga practitioners, Iyengar is the practice that helps refine your alignment and grow subtle body awareness, so your movement becomes more focused and intentional.
This class is for those who:
- have inquisitive minds and love to learn
- understand that real progress takes time
- want to apply their yoga practice off the mat
- willing to tend to their practice like a garden, with patience, curiosity, consistency, and care
Come ready to ask questions, slow down, and grow, one thoughtful pose at a time.
About the teacher: Anne Barbaret has been teaching Iyengar Yoga for over two decades and is a Certified Iyengar Teacher, Level 2. Her teaching is rooted in devotion to practice, deep study, and a lifelong curiosity about how yoga shapes both body and mind.
Anne studies yoga philosophy as a living discipline, not just an intellectual pursuit. For her, yoga is a path of self-discovery that extends far beyond the mat, offering reliable insight, clarity, and a deepening appreciation for all aspects of life.
Her personal practice reflects this commitment. Anne maintains a steady meditation practice and regularly participates in 10-day Vipassana meditation retreats, returning again and again to silence as a powerful teacher.
Originally from France, Anne has been a North Beach resident for decades, deeply connected to the rhythms of San Francisco’s coastline. She is a devoted open-water swimmer in the San Francisco Bay and a longtime member of the Dolphin Club, where discipline, presence, humility, and resilience are cultivated through cold water and consistency.
Anne’s classes are thoughtful, precise, and quietly transformative. Through detailed alignment, intelligent use of props, and a steady pace, she guides students toward greater awareness and understanding, supporting growth that unfolds patiently, both in the body and in life.
Anne also leads beautiful annual yoga retreats, inviting students into deeper practice, reflection, and connection.
