Emergencies can feel intimidating, but getting prepared doesn’t have to be! Be Ready is an engaging, hands on session that breaks preparedness down into four simple, empowering steps: know the risks, make a plan, build a kit, and build a network.
Through practical and accessible preparedness education, participants learn how to better respond to disasters, stay safe, and strengthen community resilience before emergencies happen.
The session is led by Maria Chiarella, Program Manager for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction at the Canadian Red Cross. With a background in sustainable forest management, Maria is passionate about helping communities become more connected, informed, and resilient through education, engagement, and preparedness programming.
Joining her is Kathleen Robertson, Program Officer with the same team. Kathleen is from Sarnia, Ontario, and a member of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation, an Anishnaabe (Ojibwe) First Nations Band. With a background in environmental sciences and land stewardship, she brings deep knowledge and a strong commitment to supporting communities through meaningful education and engagement. She’s proud to be part of the Canadian Red Cross and excited to share her expertise.
