Integrating the Eight Limbs of Yoga — Ancient Teachings for Modern Life and Practice
As the popularity of Yoga continues to grow, many practitioners begin to seek a deeper understanding beyond Āsana. The Yoga tradition offers a rich and holistic framework through the teachings of Mahaṛṣi Patañjali: Aṣṭāṅga Yoga — the eight limbs.
Within this framework, Āsana finds its place as one tool among many. When understood in context, practice becomes more meaningful, integrated, and transformative. This one-day workshop offers a clear and authentic introduction to the eight limbs, exploring how they support and inform one another, and how they can be applied in both practice and daily life.
Drawing from the Viniyoga tradition, Dr Kausthub Desikachar will guide participants through key principles of: The context and purpose of Aṣṭāṅga Yoga Yama and Niyama as foundations for living and practice Āsana and Prāṇāyāma within a broader framework The inner limbs: Pratyāhāra, Dhāraṇā, Dhyāna and Samādhi How these teachings inform a holistic and authentic approach to Yoga This workshop is suitable for sincere students, teachers, and those wishing to understand Yoga beyond posture — grounded in tradition and relevant to modern life.
Continuing Study For those who wish to deepen their understanding, this introductory day will form part of an ongoing programme. Further study days will be offered twice yearly, gradually exploring each limb in greater depth over the coming years. A precious opportunity to regularly study with Dr Kausthub Desikachar, lineage holder of the Viniyoga tradition, and engage directly with the subtle and transformative aspect of Yoga.
