"That Damn Art Woman": Adah Robinson, Bruce Goff, and the controversy over Boston Avenue Church
For a century, differing historical narratives have looked at the complex creative partnership behind our iconic Art Deco home. Did the concept originate with accomplished artist and educator Adah Robinson, or her gifted former student, architect Bruce Goff?
100 Years in the Making: In June 1926, Boston Avenue signed dual contracts with Adah Robinson and the architecture firm of Rush, Endacott, & Rush to begin our church building. These contracts are just some of dozens of documents and historical artifacts that Teresa Holder, MA, examines in her presentation, “That Damn Art Woman."
Join us Sunday, June 28 at 4 p.m. in our historic Community Hall for her presentation, exploring who designed one of the finest examples of ecclesiastical Art Deco architecture in the world, and the biographies behind the controversy.
Afterward, we’ll celebrate our heritage with a 1920s-themed ice cream social!
