About this Event
Part 1: "Getting Loose & Showing Movement in Your Art"
This workshop is the first of a 3-part series that Kristen will be offering throughout the year. In Part 1, learn how to loosen up with today's offering of drawing tools, create gestural marks, and add rhythm and movement to your artwork.
In This Workshop:
You may not realize it, but you draw all the time. When you sign your name, when you draw a map, cross something out, or doodle on scrap paper. Drawing is a powerful and wonderful language, capable of expressing things not easily conveyed in other mediums.
Drawing can also be very expressive: communicating the intangible and invisible. It is one of the most accessible and portable activities you can undertake. The Modernism movement expanded the definition of what drawing can be and do; freeing it from being equated to only realistic renderings.
In this workshop series, we will produce a broad range of expressive and gestural drawings that will be personal and meaningful. We will explore and experiment with materials beyond the familiar pencil and eraser duo. We will learn to loosen up, trust ourselves, and expand on what we know we can do to create rich, satisfying abstract drawings.
What we cover in Part 1:
- getting loose
- using today's offering of drawing materials
- creating gestural marks
- adding rhythm and movement to your art
Students will walk away with several studies on large-format paper that are born from exercises and prompts led by the instructor. You will end up with the know-how for making and adding these type of marks into your own paintings at home.
