About this Event
This spring, Azili Wellness invites you to gather at S&S Friendly Ranch for an immersive workshop rooted in herbal wisdom, seed stewardship, and seasonal nourishment. Together we will explore hands-on practices that connect us more deeply to the cycles of the garden and the traditions of plant care.
Participants will move through three interactive learning experiences designed to build practical skills while honoring the cultural and ecological relationships we have with plants.
Seeds & Starts: Growing with Intention
In this session we will explore the foundations of seed stewardship and starting plants for the growing season. Participants will learn about the differences between greenhouse, indoor, and outdoor seed starting, how to properly plant young starts, and what soil conditions help plants thrive.
We will also discuss seed saving practices and why preserving seeds, especially culturally relevant crops, matters for community resilience and food sovereignty.
Participants will plant their own seeded start start in a 4-inch pot, learning the proper technique for planting and caring for seedlings. Before taking their plant home, we will take a moment to set intentions for the growth of the plant and the season ahead, honoring the relationship between grower and garden.
Herbal & Native Plant Propagation
Plants reproduce in many ways beyond seeds. In this workshop segment we will explore vegetative propagation methods used to reproduce plants from cuttings.
Participants will be introduced to herbal and native plants growing on the ranch, learning how these plants can be multiplied and stewarded to support biodiversity and herbal traditions. This session highlights how plant propagation allows gardeners to share medicinal plants, expand garden ecosystems, and preserve important plant varieties.
Herbal Sharabs: Garden Drinking Vinegars
The final portion of the workshop will explore herbal sharabs, also known as drinking vinegars. The word “shrub”comes from the Arabic “sharāb” (to drink) and the Persian “sharbat,” referring to sweetened herbal drinks that have been enjoyed across cultures for centuries.
Participants will learn how to create an herbal sharab using apple cider vinegar, honey, fruit, and fresh herbs harvested directly from the garden. We will discuss flavor balancing, herbal pairings, and the traditional role of these preparations as refreshing, digestive-supportive beverages.
Each participant will create herbal sharab blend, which will be stored and allowed to mature over the coming months. As the herbs continue to infuse and deepen in potency, we invite y'all to return in the fall to enjoy sipping on sharabs during Azili Wellness’s annual Fall Equinox Butterfly Effect Herbal Sip & Paint.
This workshop is designed as a hands-on, sensory experience rooted in seasonal learning and connection to the land. Participants can expect:
- Guided instruction and storytelling around seeds, herbs, and traditional plant preparations
- Opportunities to harvest herbs directly from the garden
- Hands-on planting and propagation activities
- Creating a personal herbal sharab blend
- Taking home planted seed start
- Time to connect with community while learning practical garden and herbal skills
Whether you are new to gardening or already cultivating your own plants, our spring workshop offers a space to learn, create, and deepen your relationship with the plants and the season of renewal.
