=== Padley Gorge & Burbage Rocks ===
Sunday 14th June 2026
Start time: 10:00am
Estimated finish time: 4:00pm
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 13.7km / 8.5mi
Ascent: 440m / 1444ft
This delightful walk has many facets, expansive moorland with ancient rock features, the picturesque Padley Gorge and woodland, a walk through the Longshaw estate (where we might see Deer if we're lucky) and finishing on the Burbage Edge Rocks, the historic site of mill stone production from years past. An Ethel can also be bagged on this walk, (Higger Tor)
From the Upper Burbage Bridge Car Park we head South gradually ascending up Fiddlers Elbow until we reach Higger Tor summit at 434m. Continuing South we descend the Tor onto Hathersage Moor where we head West to Sheepfold. Heading South again we cross Over Owler Tor and onto Mother Cap where we descend and walk alongside Burbage Brook into Yarncliff Woods. Crossing the road we enter Oaks Wood and ascend to Nether Padley. Heading North we make our way through the Longshaw Estate, passing Longshaw Lodge. Leaving the estate we walk alongside Burbage Rocks and back to the car park.
Walk Leader : Paul Harvey
Packed lunch is required. Dogs as long as kept on a lead should be OK (a few stiles). There IS NOT a toilet at the start of the walk, but there is at approximately the half way point on the walk.
Starting point:
The Upper Burbage Bridge car park
Ordnance Survey gridref: SK 26180 82943
What3words: hardly.firmly.wake
Nearest postal code: S11 7TW
The Upper Burbage Bridge car park can be found on Ringlow Road near Hathersage. Parking is £4.80 at the Upper Burbage Bridge car park, there are some free spaces on the road by the car park, but not many. The post code is miles off, I would use Google Maps for "Upper Burbage Bridge Car Park" or What3Words when getting near.
Please either confirm as "Going" on this event, or contact the Walk Leader direct if you would like to join this walk. "Interested" will be considered as not going.
Staffordshire Walkers are part of The Ramblers. We’re an incredibly friendly and welcoming group and can’t wait to meet you on our walks. You can walk with us on up to three occasions before you will be required to join the Ramblers.
