4 Week Dip Pen Modern Calligraphy Workshop

Designed for complete beginners, you’ll learn from a professional calligrapher and build the essential techniques that allow you to create beautiful work and continue progressing long after the course has finished.

Across 4 gentle, structured weeks, we’ll move from the very basics to creating finished pieces you’ll be proud of.

Week 1

We begin by getting comfortable with the tools. You’ll learn how to assemble your pen, manage ink flow, and understand the difference good posture and pressure make. We’ll practise the foundational strokes of calligraphy and start turning them into clean, confident lowercase and uppercase letters. The whole focus this week is on building strong, reliable foundations.

Week 2

We move on to connecting letters, forming words, and understanding how baseline and bouncy calligraphy differ. This week is all about fluency, rhythm, and building confidence as you see your words come to life on the page.

Week 3

With the basics in place, we’ll explore composition. You’ll practise putting phrases together thoughtfully and begin working on a simple final project, using your new skills with intention.

Week 4

In our final session, we’ll bring everything together. We’ll explore beginner-friendly flourishing and create a set of cards decorated with small illustrated elements such as a wreath, simple florals, or other light details that complement your lettering. It’s a lovely way to celebrate how far you’ve come. Four weeks of steady practice builds real momentum, and you’ll feel that progress.

• Dip pen and nib
• Black ink
• Week 1 worksheets (with new sheets added each week)
• Any additional materials needed for the projects will be provided in class
