Keynote speaker - Dr Leon Moosavi
Info: Dr Leon Moosavi is a Reader in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology at the University of Liverpool. He is also an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Leon is currently writing a book about Muslim football fans in England, and what their experiences of football fandom tell us about identity, belonging, and marginalisation in contemporary societies. Amongst his most notable works are The Decolonial Bandwagon and the Dangers of Intellectual Decolonisation (2020) and The Racialization of Muslim Converts in Britain and Their Experiences of Islamophobia (2015). In 2021, Leon founded The Decolonial Critique, a global network of more than 2,200 scholars and activists who have an interest in theoretical and applied approaches to coloniality/decoloniality within and beyond the university.

Why we need to decolonise Criminology
Info: This presentation by Dr Fahid Qurashi explores the connection between criminology, criminal justice and coloniality evidencing how decolonisation can enhance Criminology as a discipline, with more nuanced understanding of theory and research methods. Dr Fahid Qurashi is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Salford and a Research Director at the Ayaan Institute. He lectures and conducts research in the areas of Islamophobia, racism, crime, counterterrorism, political Islam, surveillance, and radicalisation.
