ÉCOLE D’UN JOUR - L'ASCENSION DE LA BOURGEOISIE : RÉVOLUTIONS, RATIONALITÉ ET VIOLENCE (MONTRÉAL)

À voir comment la « classe Epstein » domine le monde et brise des vies à coup de bombes, de crimes dépravés et d’attaques sur nos conditions de vie, nombreux seraient surpris d’apprendre que la bourgeoisie a autrefois joué un rôle progressiste dans l’histoire. C’était l’époque de son ascension et de sa lutte contre l’ancien ordre féodal décrépit, une époque de révolutions et de luttes contre l’obscurantisme, mais aussi de la consolidation brutale d’un nouveau régime.
Cette École d’un jour du PCR à Montréal vise à étudier cette période d’essor de la bourgeoisie. En tirant les leçons des révolutions du passé, nous pouvons mieux les retourner contre la bourgeoisie décadente et déclinante de notre époque. Trois présentations bilingues sont au menu :

1. LA PHILOSOPHIE RÉVOLUTIONNAIRE DES LUMIÈRES
Dans sa lutte contre la domination de la noblesse, la bourgeoisie naissante a développé une philosophie profondément révolutionnaire. Elle opposait à l'obscurantisme de l'Église la pensée rationnelle et scientifique. Les « philosophes des Lumières », comme Locke et Diderot, ont jeté les bases idéologiques pour les révolutions bourgeoises qui ont renversé l’ordre féodal et pavé la voie à la domination du capitalisme à l’échelle mondiale.
Le marxisme est la continuation de cette philosophie révolutionnaire, dont le matérialisme audacieux demeure une arme théorique fondamentale des révolutionnaires dans notre lutte contre la classe capitaliste pourrissante.
2. LA RÉVOLUTION FRANÇAISE DE 1789-1794
La Révolution française de 1789-1794 est la révolution bourgeoise par excellence. Inspirées par la Révolution américaine et guidées par les idées des Lumières, les masses françaises se sont soulevées non seulement contre la monarchie détestée, mais également contre l’Église et l’entièreté du système féodal.
Sous le slogan « Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité », elles ont entrepris une transformation sociale profonde, aboli les droits et privilèges féodaux et proclamé la République, ouvrant même la voie aux premières idées socialistes. La Révolution française a ébranlé le monde tout entier, et fait encore trembler les bourgeois d’aujourd’hui.
3. LES ORIGINES VÉRITABLES DU CAPITALISME
Contre le mythe voulant que le capitalisme soit le système le plus « naturel » qui soit, Karl Marx a montré qu’il a plutôt été instauré par la force et une violence incommensurable : dépossession de grands pans de la paysannerie, imposition de l’esclavage salarié et concentration des richesses dans une nouvelle classe possédante. Marx décrivait le Capital comme venant au monde « suant le sang et la boue par tous les pores ». La brutalité avec laquelle le capitalisme est né n’a d’égal que celle avec laquelle il s’accroche présentement au pouvoir lorsque la classe ouvrière le menace.

Il est vrai qu’à ses débuts, le capitalisme constituait un bond de géant en comparaison de la société féodale qui l’avait précédé. Dans son ascension, la bourgeoisie a développé les forces productives de l’humanité comme jamais auparavant. Mais cette époque est révolue. La bourgeoisie d’aujourd’hui, loin de faire progresser l’humanité, est devenue une classe parasitaire. Il incombe désormais à la classe ouvrière de mener sa propre révolution pour renverser l’ordre bourgeois et instaurer le socialisme.

DAY SCHOOL - LIBERTY AND SLAVERY: THE RISE OF THE BOURGEOISIE (MONTREAL)
Seeing how the “Epstein class” rules the world and destroys lives through bombs, depraved crimes and attacks on our standard of living, many would be surprised to learn that the bourgeoisie once played a progressive role in history. That was during its period of ascent and its struggle against the old and decrepit feudal order, a period of revolutions and struggles against obscurantism, but also of the brutal consolidation of a new regime.
This Day School by the RCP in Montreal aims to study this period of the rise of the bourgeoisie. By drawing the lessons of past revolutions, we can more easily turn them against the decadent and declining bourgeoisie of our time. Three bilingual presentations are on the agenda:
- The Revolutionary Philosophy of the Enlightenment
- The French Revolution of 1789-1794
- The Real Origins of Capitalism
WHEN? Saturday, June 13th, 2026, 9 AM to 6 PM, followed by a social gathering.

1. THE REVOLUTIONARY PHILOSOPHY OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT
In its struggle against the domination of the nobility, the nascent bourgeoisie developed a deeply revolutionary philosophy. It opposed rational and scientific thought to the obscurantism of the Church. The “Enlightenment philosophers” like Locke and Diderot laid the ideological foundations of the bourgeois revolutions that overthrew the feudal order, and paved the way for the domination of capitalism across the world.
Marxism is the continuation of this revolutionary philosophy, whose bold materialism remains as a fundamental theoretical weapon for revolutionaries in our struggle against the rotting capitalist class.
2. THE FRENCH REVOLUTION OF 1789-1794
The French Revolution of 1789-1794 is the bourgeois revolution par excellence. Inspired by the American Revolution and guided by the ideas of the Enlightenment, the French masses rose up not only against the hated monarchy, but also against the Church and the entire feudal system.
Under the slogan “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” (Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood), they undertook a deep social transformation, abolished feudal rights and privileges, and proclaimed the Republic, even paving the way for the first socialist ideas. The French Revolution shook the entire world, and makes the bourgeois tremble to this day.
3. THE REAL ORIGINS OF CAPITALISM
Against the myth that capitalism is the most “natural” system there is, Karl Marx showed that it was actually established through force and immeasurable violence: the expropriation of large parts of the peasantry, the imposition of wage slavery, and the concentration of wealth in a new owning class. Marx described Capital as coming into being “dripping from head to foot, from every pore, with blood and dirt”. The brutality through which capitalism was born is only equalled by the brutality with which it currently clings to power when the working class threatens it.

It is true that at its inception, capitalism represented a giant leap forward compared to the feudal society that preceded it. In its rise, the bourgeoisie developed humanity’s productive forces to heights never seen before. However, times have changed. Today’s bourgeoisie, far from pushing humanity forward, has become a parasitic class. It now falls to the working class to lead its own revolution to overthrow the bourgeois order and establish socialism.
