About this Event
Join us for the Zine Making Workshop at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture!
Get ready to learn more about the fascinating world of zines and create your own self-published masterpiece at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture.
This in-person event will take place on Saturday, May 25, 2024, starting at 10:00 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time).
A zine is a self-published, often low-cost and lo-fi, non-commercial publication that is easy to distribute in local circles. The theorist Michael Warner argues that publications are the site where publics are formed. This workshop engages publication as an artistic practice in an effort to connect through cultural commons, or the shared interdisciplinary knowledge acquired by varied communities.
During the workshop, we will use visual source material that participants bring along, such as old magazines, photo albums, and record covers, to cut, copy, and paste compositions. We will produce and reproduce saddle-stitched zines for distribution in the local bookshop and other hubs around the residency. Participants can also write, draw, cut, or type. Discussions around the meanings that emerge from visual juxtapositions will guide the creative process for the makers of the workshop.
All skill levels welcome!
