About this Event
Join us for the Denim Hand Repair Workshop on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024 at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture!
Embark on a journey to master the art of hand-stitched denim repair with California-based artist Eliot Spaulding. Join us in creating a decorative patch while celebrating sustainable garment care.
For this hands-on workshop, bring along a pair of jeans or any denim/heavy cotton article from your closet that bears a hole or tear in need of mending. Alternatively, come as you are, and craft a decorative patch to enhance a garment at a later date.
This workshop is an integral part of Eliot’s community-driven ‘10 Knots’ installation project, highlighting the symbiotic strength of art and science to address contemporary ecological and environmental concerns in her hometown channel. In collaboration with the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation (CMSF), '10 Knots' supports the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies program – a voluntary vessel speed reduction initiative along the California coast. This program aims to reduce fatal ship strikes to endangered whales, air pollution, regional greenhouse gas emissions, and underwater noise pollution.
Participants in the workshop will receive a briefing on the project and are invited to contribute stitches towards this innovative reclaimed-textile-based installation.
All sewing skill levels are welcome!
