Step into the world of fire and forged steel! In this Intro to Blacksmithing class, teens will experience the age-old craft of metalworking while creating their very own Combination Coat Crook & Hat Hook—a functional and eye-catching piece to proudly hang at home.
Under the guidance of skilled instructors in a safe, supervised environment, students will learn essential blacksmithing techniques like drawing, forging, twisting, fullering, punching and riveting—the same methods used by blacksmiths for centuries. They’ll also gain hands-on experience with classic tools like hammers, tongs, chisels, fullers and punches while working at an anvil and forge.
Along the way, students will explore the history and science behind blacksmithing, learning how to heat and transform raw metal into useful and artistic objects.
What Teens Will Learn & Do:
✅ Safety & Shop Skills – Learn best practices for working safely in a blacksmithing shop.
✅ Hands-On Forging – Heat, and form steel using traditional blacksmithing tools.
✅ Tool Mastery – Work with hammers, punches, chisels, holding devices and more to manipulate metal.
✅ Creative Expression – Customize their coat and hat hanger with decorative elements.
✅ Take-Home Project – Leave with a finished, hand-forged hanger to mount on the wall!
This class is perfect for creative teens who love working with their hands, enjoy problem-solving, or are curious about metal arts. Whether they dream of becoming an artist, engineer, or maker, blacksmithing offers a unique way to build skills, confidence, and craftsmanship.
🛠No experience needed! All tools and materials provided.
