In our yoga of sound class, the voice is the primary tool of our practice. If you have a voice and want to experience a new kind of vocal confidence and explore singing for your own enjoyment
this class is for you!
Bani Aello will be accompanying Marla on drums.
As a yoga practice, the voice and sound work inwardly to scrub the build up of inner tension so that we feel a palpable shift in our subtle body.
Yoga is a practice of calming the agitation in the mind and by using sound, we gently scrub the mental/emotional body to experience a new kind of peace and presence. We will do gentle all-levels warm ups for the body (hip stretching or myofascial release with balls), vocal toning, communal singing, repetitive Sanskrit mantras, and meditation.
This is an excellent class for beginners as well as advanced practitioners who want to learn more about nāda (sound), Sanskrit, and rāga-inspired kīrtan.
About your teacher:
Marla is a second-generation Indian American whose family comes from the state of Punjab in Northeast India. Despite growing up around mantras and Hinduism, it wasn’t until her Hatha yoga teacher training in 2006 that she really began to understand Sanskrit, mantras, and the power of transformation through yoga.
In 2021 she completed a 500 hour Sanskrit, mantra & sound yoga teacher training. Since beginning her yoga practice in 2003, it is her strong belief that mantra is one of the best ways to release stuck emotions, transmute samskaras, and cleanse the mental body in order to meditate.
Now, she leads groups in kīrtan, nāda yoga, and teaches Sanskrit classes for the chant lover regularly in Rochester, Buffalo & the Finger Lakes area.
Her goal is to gather all the chant lovers in Western NY to joyfully express themselves through Sanskrit chanting.
She lives in Rochester, NY with her
five children on a small family farm.
