Yoga 101 with Props by Anne Barbaret
About this Event
When: Sept 1 - Dec 9 Wednesdays 8a-9a
12 weeks - 12 classes.
(Class is not happening on Wed, Oct 7, Nov 11, 25)
Maybe you tried yoga years ago and it never quite clicked. Maybe you walked into a boring class, or clubby-vibes class that made you feel like you have to be naturally coordinated, spiritual, or somehow already flexible before you even begin.
Or maybe there are pieces of the foundation you never really learned and injured yourself along the way.
This fall, learn yoga from the ground up, and how how yoga can be customized for EVERY BODY using props. From September through December, Anne will guide you through a playful Yoga 101 course to develop your attention to alignment, precision and intelligent use of props - giving you time to understand not only what you're doing, but how to make each pose work for your individual body.
Over the 12 classes with Anne, you'll build your practice week by week, strengthen your understanding of foundational poses, and develop the kind of confidence that can completely change how you experience every other yoga class you take. This fall course is an opportunity to actually learn yoga, progressively and thoughtfully, instead of simply trying to keep up.
This all-level and all-ages friendly Iyengar-based yoga class is a chance to learn the intricate details of yoga asana. For our vinyasa lovers, Iyengar is like the alignment glasses you didn’t know you needed. It refines your awareness and skills to use the props, so your movement becomes more focused and intentional.
This class is for those who:
- want to develop mobility and flexibility
- want to learn creative ways of using props
- have inquisitive mind and love to experiment
- willing to tend to their practice like a garden, with patience, curiosity, consistency, and care
All ages. All levels. All bodies. Questions enthusiastically encouraged.
About your Teacher:
Anne Barbaret has been teaching Iyengar Yoga for over two decades and is a Certified Iyengar Teacher, Level 2. Her teaching is rooted in devotion to practice, deep study, and a lifelong curiosity about how yoga shapes both body and mind.
Anne studies yoga philosophy as a living discipline, not just an intellectual pursuit. For her, yoga is a path of self-discovery that extends far beyond the mat, offering reliable insight, clarity, and a deepening appreciation for all aspects of life.
Her personal practice reflects this commitment. Anne maintains a steady meditation practice and regularly participates in 10-day Vipassana meditation retreats, returning again and again to silence as a powerful teacher.
Originally from France, Anne has been a North Beach resident for decades, deeply connected to the rhythms of San Francisco’s coastline. She is a devoted open-water swimmer in the San Francisco Bay and a longtime member of the Dolphin Club, where discipline, presence, humility, and resilience are cultivated through cold water and consistency.
Anne’s classes are thoughtful, precise, and quietly transformative. Through detailed alignment, intelligent use of props, and a steady pace, she guides students toward greater awareness and understanding, supporting growth that unfolds patiently, both in the body and in life.
Anne also leads beautiful annual yoga retreats, inviting students into deeper practice, reflection, and connection.
