Writing Ourselves Back: A Workshop in Erasure, Memory and Voice
About this Event
Join fellow writers of colour ready to tell the stories that have gone untold. This is a generative creative writing space, not a discussion group, where we will work with erasure, fragment, and inherited silence as craft tools rather than obstacles.
This event is presented as part of Glasgow 2026 Festival, supported by Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council, sportscotland, and Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.
Your Facilitator:
Sumayya Usmani is an award-winning author born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan, living in Glasgow, Scotland. She is a Scottish Book Trust Next Awardee for her memoir Andaza and the author of two cookbooks Sumayya completed a MLitt in Creative Writing at University of Glasgow (distinction) and is currently pursuing her PhD in Creative Writing there. Her writing has evolved from culinary themes to displacement, erasure of belonging through colonisation and Partition. Sumayya appears regularly on BBC Radio, U.K. television and writes for publications including The Guardian, The Telegraph and was a columnist for the Scottish Sunday Herald.
