World of Wine Tasting: Alsace

The Alsace region of eastern France nestles snugly against the German border, and its wines are a vivid reflection of that proximity. As with the nearby German wine regions of Pfalz, Baden and Mosel, Alsace is known for its light, aromatic, zesty, mineraly white wines: in particular Riesling and Gewürtztraminer.

At this tasting, we’ll be exploring wines from one of our hero producers, Domaine Allimant-Laugner.

Nicolas Laugner's winery is a real family winery. Grandma Allimant married Grandpa Laugner giving the winery its name, but in fact the family has 12 generations of winemakers - with the 13th generation currently 3 years old.

They farm 12 hectares in Orschwiller, Northern Alsace, from which they make an incredible 15 different wines, so this is super boutique stuff. They only employ two part-time employees, Nicolas, his Mum, Dad and dog (a little white fluffy ball called Falka). Their wines are all vegan, fermented in stainless steel using only natural yeast and cultivated in a sustainable manner.

At this two-hour tasting, we’ll take you through the icons, the rebels, and the hidden gems of Alsace’s wine scene, from racy Rieslings to aromatic Gewürztraminers, delicate Pinot Noirs, and late-harvest Pinot Gris.

Our fantastic wine experts will be your guides, pouring seven incredible wines, including a welcome drink, sharing stories of the winemakers, the unique terroirs, and the winemaking traditions that make wines from Alsace so iconic. So whether you’re a die-hard Riesling lover or just curious to see beyond supermarket Pinot Grigios, this event is for you.
