World AIDS Day Die-In Vigil 2025

Schedule

Mon Dec 01 2025 at 08:00 am to 09:00 am

UTC+00:00

Location

Trafalgar Square, London, United Kingdom | London, EN

This World AIDS Day, 1 December 2025, join us to Remember the Dead and Fight for the Living at our Die In in Trafalgar Square - a living act of resistance against the AIDS crisis.
WHEN - World AIDS Day - December 1st - is the international day where we remember the millions (44+ million to be precise) who have been murdered by pharmaceutical greed and government inaction that is the root cause of the ongoing AIDS pandemic.
HOW - This is a peaceful vigil. Please dress warmly and bring personal placards if you like. Tombstones and placards will also be provided on the day. All press and participation questions please email - [email protected]
WHY - We’re living under a weak-willed “Labour-tory” government that has gutted the HIV voluntary sector.
They’ve slashed foreign aid, diverting life-saving funds into military contracts — including £2 billion for Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest arms manufacturer.
Global cuts to HIV programmes are predicted to cause up to 3 million deaths.
Meanwhile, this same government chips away at the right to protest — the very tool that won life-saving drugs in the first place.
Our Key Demands
1. Fund the Fight, Not the Cuts.
Guarantee sustainable, multi-year funding for the HIV voluntary sector — stop the crisis and meet the UK’s 2030 HIV targets.
2. Protect the Right to Protest.
Repeal authoritarian laws that criminalise peaceful resistance. Freedom of speech and protest are not optional — they are democratic rights.
3. Restore International Aid.
Reinstate the 0.7% GNI commitment to foreign aid. Stop weaponising funds meant to save lives.
4. Healthcare Not Warfare.
End UK complicity in genocide, medical apartheid, and war profiteering. Sanction war criminals — don’t arm them.
“Find the human in yourself by finding the citizen in yourself — the activist, the hero in yourself.” Tony Kushner, Angels in America

"World AIDS Day holds a special place in my heart as a day of reflection and remembrance. It’s a time to honour the friends and loved ones we've lost to HIV, and to recognise the ongoing struggle against this disease.
As a 68 year old gay man and member of ACT-UP London, I’ve witnessed firsthand the relentless dedication of our community in fighting not just the virus, but the stigma that surrounds it. Every year, we come together to share stories, raise awareness, and advocate for healthcare access for everyone, regardless of their status.
The fight is far from over, but the passion and resilience of our community inspire me every day. We are united in our mission to ensure that no one else has to suffer in silence. Until there is a cure, we will continue to stand strong, support one another, and push for the healthcare that every person deserves. Let’s remember those we’ve lost, celebrate the progress we’ve made, and keep fighting for a future where HIV is no longer a barrier to living a full and healthy life." Ian Johns ACT-UP London
