Workshop: Trust the Process
Schedule
Sat Jan 17 2026 at 02:00 pm to 04:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
River Gallery School | Brattleboro, VT
Through experimentation with a variety of media (graphite, acrylic, charcoal, and more), Erika will guide you in letting go of control, embracing surprises, and rethinking what it means to make a “mistake.” You’ll deconstruct and rebuild your work, discover new sources of inspiration, and learn to turn frustration into possibility.
Discover how to work through obstacles that arise during the artmaking process by exploring questions along the way: Did your work fulfill your original vision? How much did it stray? Are you comfortable with the new direction? If so, did it provide a new way of envisioning your work, moving forward? How do you handle the awkwardness of the unexpected?
Bring along one or a few small objects—anything from nature or your home that sparks curiosity. These might include mementos from a favorite memory, like a shell from the beach, a ticket stub from a concert, pressed flowers, or a news article. Nothing too precious or heavy—just something to inspire your creativity.
By the end of the day, you’ll leave with new ideas, a fresh perspective, and a renewed sense of play in your art-making.
This event is presented in connection with the exhibition ERIKA RANEE: I DON'T LIKE TO DRAW. Following the workshop, at 5 p.m., Ranee will give a talk about her work at BMAC (details at brattleboromuseum.org).
