The topic Tina is asked about most is–what do I do about the things that take me off my meditation object? How do I work with that material, other than to just come back to the meditation object? Traditionally, we just saw these thoughts as “distractions” that “didn’t mean anything.” Or we were told “they’re just empty” (which can be a form of spiritual bypassing.) But with the advent of modern psychology, we can discover that these “personality patterns” are actually the building blocks of the ego-self. Fortunately, it is possible to digest and be more free from these patterns (known as the hindrances and defilements in Buddhism.) By working with our patterns in a more sophisticated way, we can understand and digest them much more fully, with the possibility that they arise a lot less often or even stop completely. You will have opportunities to meditate and see your patterns more clearly, and then Tina will discuss how to work with these patterns skillfully and productively. The Enneagram can be a very useful tool in this process, providing insights into the ego-identity that we came to believe is what we are. Knowing and working with our Enneatype can be a short-cut that takes us back to knowing what we are beyond the body and the personality. It helps us see the patterns that are so deep in identity, that they feel like “me” or “that’s just how I am” and often we don’t even see them as patterns. Tina will talk about using the Enneagram as a tool that can accelerate our progress on the path. Her friend and colleague, Diana Redmond (who has been a professional enneagram teacher and coach for many years), will also be at the event to share her wisdom, and be available to talk with people 1:1 on breaks. This event is both in person and online.
