Join us for a Powerful Celebration of Black Women’s History!
In honor of Women’s History Month, we invite you to the annual "HISTORY MAKERS: Celebrating Black Women in San Antonio" event on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the MLK Business and Cultural Center. This event is a unique opportunity to recognize and celebrate the profound contributions of Black women in San Antonio, whose legacies have shaped our city, culture, and history.
Throughout this engaging presentation, we will honor the lives and achievements of iconic Black women who have made a lasting impact in fields such as education, business, politics, and social justice. We will journey through the past and present to highlight the unsung heroes of our community and acknowledge their pivotal roles in shaping San Antonio's rich history.
Featured History Makers Include:
- Artemisa Bowden – President of St. Philip's College, a visionary leader in education
- Mattie Wilson Laundry – Founder of The Camp Founder Girls, a trailblazer in youth empowerment
- Ella Austin – Founder of the Ella Austin Orphanage, dedicated to the welfare of children
- Myra Lillian Davis Hemmings – A founding member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a leader in activism and community building
