A walk to explore the various ways to identify trees without leaves - you'll be amazed at all the clues! . We will be walking through Ashes Woods and Lees Hall Woods at a steady pace looking at buds, bark, form and other clues.
Throughout the walk, there'll be folklore and foraging tips as well as some interesting and surprising landscape history.
At the end of the walk you'll be welcome to take a look through some identification resources and look at various apps to help with identifying plants and trees yourselves.
Children are welcome and we always give out a scavenger hunt to help engage young minds.
Dogs can join if they are well-behaved and safe with children and other dogs.
The woodland lies on steep ground and sometimes narrow woodland paths which can potentially be muddy so please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
We will be walking on the main paths and some side paths in the woods but not at a fast pace and with plenty of stopping so dress with plenty of layers if it is a cold day.
Please get in touch if you would like to come but have concerns about accessibility. There is a similar walk at Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve on Sat 28th Feb with excellent accessibility.
This walk is PAY AS YOU FEEL. Purchase a free ticket and there'll be a hat out at the end, paypal and bank details for transfer if you feel you can contribute.
If adverse weather conditions such as high winds, persistent heavy rain or ice are a concern then the walk will be postponed and you will be notified the day before.
