We gather at Dunchurch village hall to celebrate the transition between seasons . The next being at Yule … we will be delving into deep relaxation and tranquility as we celebrate the season of magical wonder and return of light in this part of the year that sees us at the winter solstice. At this time where the days are shorter and nights are longer it is important to have an acceptance of the beauty of the ‘inner work’ to nourish ourselves and celebrate that the light will return again soon.
I will lead you on a magical winter journey across visual landscapes of your mind to relax and enchant you. We will set affirmation and lay plans for the life you want to live. Focusing on manifesting all that is possible for 2024
We have a large and varied selection of sacred instruments to make this a night to go deeper into your meditation practice.
Here is a little bit of information about sound baths:
A sound bath focusses more on enveloping you in the relaxing, meditative sound waves from singing bowls, gongs and other instruments. The concept of sound baths originated in Tibet some 2000 years ago.
Most sound baths take place in a room with other people, but some sound bath specialists offer one-on-one experiences for the ultimate in relaxation.
Once in the room, you’ll be asked to lie down on either a bed or a yoga mat complete with a pillow. You’ll then put on an eye mask and make yourself comfortable and cosy under a blanket. I will encourage you to relax your body muscle by muscle before starting to play gongs, singing bowls or other instruments. The sounds will start off softly to ease you in, but will get progressively louder. Instead of giving you a headache, they have the clever ability to soothe your mind.
Sound bath sessions can last up to an hour, it’s important that you are warm and as comfortable as possible. Wearing loose clothing is advisable. Also bring lots of comfort equipment (cushions, bolsters, blankets etc) . I will have spare things here for you to borrow.
I feel that the space we create is very special, it holds a unique energy and amazing acoustics to really feel the instruments in a deeply connective resonance.
So, what happens in your body during a sound bath?
The gong sound is changed frequently to avoid producing a fixed, monotonous rhythm. The auditory stimuli of the gong bath process leads to entrainment, a form of beneficially modified brainwave frequencies. The first brainwave state to be reached is alpha, which is defined by frequencies between 8 and 12 Hz. Alpha brainwaves are associated with creativity and feelings of relaxation. In this state, people experience daydreams, associative thinking and an animated imagination. This state is quickly followed by an influx of theta brainwaves, which fall between 4 and 7 Hz. Normally, the theta brainwave state is associated with deep meditation, hypnosis and REM sleep.
Sound therapy can help reduce stress and liberate emotional blockages. Scientific evidence suggests that certain forms of sound therapy prompt damaged human DNA strands to repair themselves. Some tones are thought to promote vitality and healing, and also to enhance happiness.
Other forms of sound therapy include tuning forks, Tibetan singing bowls, chanting and drumming therapy.
The benefits of sound healing include:
~ lowers stress.
~ decreases mood swings.
~ lowers blood pressure.
~ lowers cholesterol levels.
~ teaches pain management.
~ lowers risk for coronary artery disease and stroke.
~ improves sleep.
