We are delighted to invite you to an eve of story and song, at the !!New Moon!! nearest the Winter Solstice, a most ancestral time to court the slow return of the light. Deep in the time of Cailleach, the ancient hag of the cold half of the year, born before even human memory, we gather to burn the fires brightly and warm in each other’s company.
Bring your belly warming feasts, your soups and squash and chestnuts, what tendrils of the last solar year you wish to offer to the (bon?)fire. Let us turn the wheel of the year together, and engage our chorus of voices in the darkest hours. We gather to root in Yule, Solstice, and traditions of Folk Resistance that invite wild aliveness, practical magic, and global solidarity into this time of dangerous enchantment.
Where:
- New Family Farm: 2505 Gravenstein Hwy S, Sebastopol; watch for the sign, it’s a tight turn and easy to miss
~ We will gather either in the red barn (Grandparent Oak will be too flooded) or nearby outside, depending on weather.
When: NEW EARLIER TIME TO CATCH MORE LIGHT
~ 3:30- 5 pm: community crafting (Yule Goats and Himmeli) and connection time - Yule Goats and Himmeli are traditional Yuletide crafts made with wheat, barley, or corn sheafs. Himmeli (hanging mobiles) may have been the original Christmas tree, and are seen as a place for the spirits of the ancestors to gather and join in the Yuletide festivities.
~ 5 - 6 pm: potluck feast
~ 6 - 8:30 pm: storytelling and song
Please bring:
- a potluck dish, with ingredient label (local / homemade gaily encouraged!)
- bowl/plate/mug/utensils/water
- chair or ground cloth as needed (seating will be on the ground if we can be outside)
- headlamp
- layers
