Winter Raptors of Skagit: Sunday Bird Walk Open to All
About this Event
Curious about the incredible raptor species we have here in the Pacific Northwest exclusively during the winter? Join professional naturalist and experienced birder Kate Brown for a relaxed Sunday morning bird walk at Wiley Slough. We will chat about what to look and listen for while birding, discuss some of the common raptor species we are likely to spot and what makes them unique- then set out with our binoculars and scope to see what amazing birds we can spot! Bring your coffee, donuts, and any binoculars you might have (I own a few to share!) Raptors common here include Bald Eagles, Northern Harriers, Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels and Short Rated Owls.
In addition to raptors, this location is also great for winter wetland birds, including : scaup, gadwall, American Wigeon,.American Coots, Pied-biled Grebes and great blue herons.
Accessibility Note: We will be meeting at the Wiley Slough in Skagit county. The entirety of the trail is completely flat packed dirt/gravel, and there are bathroom facilities at the trailhead. Be sure to bundle up to stay warm outside in a windy area. Ages16+.
Binocular Donation: If you happen to own any pairs of usable binoculars that you no longer use, we are always accepting donations so that we have quality pairs to loan out to participants, helping us keep birding as accessible as possible for everyone in our community.
