Winchester and St Catherine's Hill evening walk. 7pm 24th June

Come and join Meon Trails for a great evening walk starting and finishing right in the heart of Winchester.
This walk is approximately 4.7 miles and will start by the famous statue of King Alfred in the Broadway in Winchester. We will head away from the centre of the city and follow the River Itchen initially. We will then climb and explore St Catherine’s hill which should give us panoramic views of the City, the floodplain of the Itchen and rolling South Downs.
Once we have descended from St Catherine’s Hill, we will continue south for a while and then turn back through St Cross and into Winchester. The return to the city follows gentle riverside paths and leafy lanes, guiding us back to the King Alfred statue where the journey began. This route offers a perfect blend of nature, history, and classic Hampshire scenery—a great walk for a warm summer evening.
We can stop for a refreshing drink at the Queen In which is on the route back into Winchester. Dogs are welcome on this walk but would need to be kept on the lead for the majority of the walk.
The start point is by King Alfred statue (close to Winchester Guildhall). The cost is £5 per person.
Address of start/finish: The Broadway, Winchester SO23 9GH
