Love the new wilder gardens? Want to use native grasses and flowers to attract pollinators? Learn how to design “wild” for your existing or new perennial garden. We'll guide you through the transformative process of creating a vibrant, garden space that not only attracts pollinators but creates a succession of blooms all season long. This workshop is designed to empower you to design and cultivate your own wild pollinator flower garden. In this three-session workshop, you will start by identifying the plants you love while streamlining your current garden space. Through interactive exercises, you'll create a "wish" list for plants that resonate with you and thrive in your specific environment. You’ll learn how to select a personal garden color palette using drifts, masses, and individual plants to create spectacular layouts. We’ll even look at plantings that provide winter interest in the garden.
Led by Maria von Brincken, a seasoned garden designer with over 30 years of experience. Maria will share her expertise on selecting a personalized color palette, creating planting combinations for seasonal succession, and utilizing drifts, masses, and individual plants to craft captivating garden layouts. You’ll practice creating a small garden with your own pre-measured small garden area (no larger 20’ x 8’—bring photos too). Note: larger spaces repeat the design of a smaller area.
During class we will take tutorial walks through MHS’s garden areas to gather inspiration and practical insights for your design (so don't forget to dress for the weather!). Back in the classroom, colorful lectures, hands-on activities, and worksheets, as well as personalized instructor feedback will deepen your understanding and hone your design skills.
