Whistles - Ancient Sounds of the Andes
About this Event
Through music, movement, rhythm, creative play, and hands-on instrument-making, children explore the ancestral sounds and traditions of the Andes Mountains. They will discover traditional wind instruments and other sound-makers, experience musical games and rhythmic activities, create simple instruments, and learn how music connects people, nature, community, and cultural identity.
Patricio Batallas is an Ecuadorian multi-instrumentalist, teaching artist,and cultural arts educator with nearly 30 years of experience in music education, performance, and community arts programming. As Director of Batallas Music Academy in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he has dedicated his career to helping students of all ages discover music through creativity, cultural exploration, and active participation.
Through educational programs such as Whistles. Patricio introduces students and families to ancestral sound traditions, Indigenous aerophones, and the rich cultural heritage of the Andes, fostering creativity, curiosity, and cross-cultural understanding through music.
This is a 3-class series with classes held on October 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 1:15 pm until 2:00pm.
