Join us in Aberystwyth this March for a special Wales–South Africa screening as part of WOW Wales One World Film Festival’s 25th anniversary edition.WOW × DIFF Shorts is a new collaboration between WOW and the Durban International Film Festival, bringing together three South African and three Welsh short films in one shared programme. Developed through the British Council’s Festival Connect Fund, this is designed as a genuine exchange between the two countries.
Helene Naicker, the South African curator of this programme, will be travelling to Wales to co-present the films and take part in a post-screening discussion, creating space for dialogue and connection. In return, the Welsh films selected for this programme will screen in Durban this summer as part of the official DIFF programme, introducing contemporary Welsh filmmaking to audiences in Southern Africa.
We’re proud to be sharing bold, distinctive South African storytelling here in Wales, and equally proud to be creating opportunities for Welsh work internationally. The six short films span different styles and voices, but together they reflect the power of cinema to travel across borders while staying rooted in place.
As WOW celebrates 25 years of bringing international cinema to communities across Wales, this collaboration feels especially meaningful.
