Wednesday Birders: Foote Park Wren Hike

Registration is required to attend this event as space is limited. Please make sure ALL fields in the registration form are completed and that a confirmation email is received.

Join Golden Eagle Audubon and the Wednesday Birders for a moderate hike through Foote Park and Lydle Gulch. The pace will be slow to allow everyone to enjoy the birds and watch any interesting bird behavior as we explore beautiful riparian habitat along the towering basalt cliffs of the Boise River. We can expect to see migratory songbirds like warblers, flycatchers, and Lazuli Buntings as well as Northern House, Canyon, and Rock Wrens. We will travel about 2 miles and may cover the entire loop depending on our pace. You can also stop by the Foote Park Interpretive Center on the way home to get a glimpse of Treasure Valley history and learn about the park's namesake family.

Potential Hazards: Steep and narrow trails, ticks, and rattle snakes.

Accessibility: This trip requires moderate hiking on steep trails and is not suited for those with impaired vision or limited mobility.

Birding Skill Level: All levels are welcome. Binoculars will be available if needed.

Age: Participants younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and participants younger than 18 must have a parent/guardian sign the liability release.

Time: 8:00am - 11:00am. Check-in is at 7:50am. Please arrive at check-in so we can start on time.

: Meet at the lowest parking lot of Foote Park near the restrooms. Please note that Google Maps may offer you two routes - take the one that uses Hwy 21 and crosses the Lucky Peak Dam bridge. The other route is not accessible. If you just use "Foote Park" as the location, you may wind up in Middleton, or at the upper parking lot. Please use the Meeting Place link to ensure you don't get lost.

What to Bring: Layers for weather, sun protection, comfortable shoes suitable for hiking, binoculars, snacks if needed, and water. No dogs please.

Restroom Availability: Restrooms will be available.

Trail Conditions: If trail conditions are not suitable for ethical passage, we will divert to an alternate location. Please check your email for updates.

Inclement Weather: If there is an unhealthy AQI, steady precipitation forecast, or the trails are not suitable for ethical passage, the trip may be cancelled.

Cancellation Policy: If your plans change, please cancel your ticket on Eventbrite or contact the field trip leader listed above. Participants who miss two trips without advance notice may be suspended from registering for three months. Thanks for your understanding!
