• FREELY, without performing, following steps, routines or partnering with no expectations of what your dance should be or look like
• SAFELY within a diverse group who enjoy grounded, conscious, freeform movement dancing on their own and together with consent and respect
• Creating SPACE for yourself, moving from the inside out, engaging with others and sharing experiences which has a positive effect on mental and physical health and wellbeing
YOU ARE WELCOME whatever your age, gender, culture, ability,
experience, shape, fitness, physical and mental ability. This is a hybrid class so online dancers are welcome to join us on zoom.
IF YOU DON’T DO YOUR DANCE, WHO WILL?
Music and dance activate pleasure centers in the body and brain stimulating comfort, calm, relaxation, joy and empowerment as well as recalibrating the sensory and nervous systems. This class is inclusive and trauma informed
CURIOUS ABOUT THE 5RHYTHMS
This is a new 5Rhythms® class in Suffolk so there may be a few people dancing the 5Rhythms® for the 1st time and there is usually someone new who shows up. You will be guided by the music which follows a structure of changing rhythm and supported by my teaching to connect, listen to and allow your body to move freely, in its unique rhythm at its own pace creating your own choreography. Any self-consciousness, anxiety or resistance is natural and I will invite you to be curious, take it by the hand and dance with it if you can and see where it takes you. We will weave and move with what we bring collectively, have fun and inspire others. All ages and abilities are welcome and the more the merrier. I DJ the music live and play many different genres and welcome requests.
- Keep hydrated : bring a water bottle with you
- Wear loose layered clothing that you feel comfortable in
- We are moving on a Harlequin sprung floor so bare feet are preferable : alternatively soft shoes or trainers
- Please turn mobile phones off if you bring them into the dance space as they will distract the other dancers.
- Please take responsibility for giving yourself time to arrive and settle into the space before we start
- Each dancer is responsible for their wellbeing and safety and if you use the physio-balls or any other equipment in the space it is at your own risk
- Please do not have conversations on the dance floor once we start, turn your words into movement
- Please stay until the end of the music in respect of the other dancers as we autonomically co-create a group dynamic supporting each other in our dances
- Under 16’s are welcome but need to be accompanied by a parent, carer, guardian

RESTRICTED MOVEMENT
The heart of the 5Rhythms® philosophy is that dancers can participate at their own pace within their capacity to move and are not expected to be on their feet all or any the time. I like to spend time with dancers whose bodies need support and may not feel at ease being on a chair and/or the floor for long periods of time to create a comfortable space for them. In my experience it is a gift to the other dancers when someone with restricted movement is part of the group as it gives the others permission to be as they are rather than as they think they should be and invariably they will come and join the dancer who is less able to move.
RESTING SPACE
Please use this space mindfully and try to keep some part/s of your body moving while you are using it so that your motion does not stop.
WHAT’S YOUR RHYTHM ?
‘We have to learn to know what rhythm we are in, how to ride with it, how to shift, how to sense what rhythms others are in and how the different rhythms are complementary or discordant. We need to discover what rhythm predominates us – are we a flowing type, a chaotic type? What rhythms characterize the main people in our lives? We need to tune into the undulating rhythms of our days, our weeks, our months, our years.’ Gabrielle Roth, creator of 5Rhythms®
ABOUT ME
I have recently moved to Suffolk. I am an accredited somatic trauma therapist, movement educator and 5Rhythms® teacher.
I have regularly danced the 5Rhythms® for 25 years and taught weekly, community classes, ongoing groups, workshops and sessions at international conferences for 6 years and enjoy the creativity of creating classes and workshops for different organisations and groups to share the potential of this practice
One of the things I love about the 5Rhythms® is the diversity that we bring and I look forward to sharing this illuminating, expressive journey of aliveness, connection and creativity with you.
