EQUINE LIVE ONLINE WORKSHOPS - NEW FORMAT for 2025

You and/or your teams are invited to join us for our Equine Loss Virtual Workshops, conveniently split into two parts: a two-hour learner-led online session, followed up by a three-hour trainer-led virtual workshop.

The Blue Cross has been supporting veterinary professionals for over 30 years with our experience and expertise within this area. These sessions will provide you with a compassionate approach to supporting your clients through equine bereavement, quality of life conversations and end of life care.

The end of an equine’s life is arguably one of the most important interactions you will have with your clients. Going the extra mile with excellent customer service will be paramount in your support. It can really make a difference to owners, practice life and, crucially, client retention. Providing the best-practice support techniques and tools can make all the difference.

In this engaging and essential five-hour CPD online training and virtual workshop, we will provide you with an updated view on equine loss and grief. We will equip you and/or your teams with the support tools to feel confident in providing the best possible service from a wealth of topics like quality of life, euthanasia and self-care.

The sessions will also provide an excellent networking and knowledge sharing opportunity through an invaluable Q&A session and case study discussion.

Overview and content

This training is conveniently split into two separate learning opportunities. Firstly, you will complete a two-hour online course, which you can do at your own pace. This excellent introduction needs to be completed prior to the three-hour trainer-led workshop, so you have a strong knowledge foundation to build upon.

The two-hour course covers the following key areas:

• Empathy vs sympathy
• Communicating with active listening skills
• Open questions
• Face-to-face emotional support, telephone support, email support and other written communication

The following three-hour virtual workshop will deepen your knowledge and allow for open conversations on how to support your clients in the most effective way. This session will include a quick overview of what you have learnt from the two-hour online introduction to equine loss, before covering these topics:

· Supporting your clients and how this affects client retention

· Discussion of appropriate approaches to supportive communication with clients, the challenges you may face as an individual and as a practice.

· Quality of life discussions

· Sensitive discussions and how to manage these to best support your clients.

· Supporting clients or yourself through equine euthanasia

· Guidance and the opportunity to share ideas on best practice during end of life, pre, during and post-euthanasia.

· Importance of self-care

The sessions will provide opportunities to develop ideas and emotional support skills through case studies and discussions. On completion a five-hour CPD certificate will be awarded.

Cancellation policy

You can cancel your booking within 14 days of confirming your place without charge (provided your course hasn't started).

If you cancel your booking more than four weeks before the start of the course, we only charge a £30 cancellation fee to cover our costs.

If you cancel your booking between two and four weeks before the start of the course, you will receive a 50% refund if your course fee is more than £60. If your course fee was less than £60, we will charge a £30 cancellation fee, and refund you any remaining balance.

If you cancel your booking less than two weeks before the start of the course, you won’t get any refund.

Depending on the circumstances we may offer an alternative to a refund, such as enrolment to an alternative course.

In exceptional circumstances, we may need to cancel your booking. If we do, we will always try to offer you a suitable alternative. If you choose not to accept this, we will offer you a full refund.

If you would like to be considered for a deferral to enable you to complete any outstanding work, you should make the request, at the earliest opportunity, to [email protected]

We will charge a £30 administration fee for all deferrals, payable before being enrolled onto the next suitable course.
