Through storytelling, painting, and spoken-word poetry, artist Bakula Nayak traces a personal, reflective response to the exhibition Longing: Painting from the Pahari Kingdoms of the Northwest Himalayas. Nayak delves into the exhibition’s themes of longing, belonging, and power, while posing questions of motherhood, migration, devotion, and the many ways longing lives within the body. Drawing on her time in Jaipur exploring miniature painting as a curious outsider, Nayak brings these centuries-old traditions into the present through a deeply personal lens. The program culminates in a hands-on exploration of miniature painting techniques, where participants work with the same specialized brushes and wasli paper used by Indian miniature painters for centuries.
While this program is designed for adults, teens 13+ accompanied by an adult are welcome.
