About this Event
This East London UDG Social, in partnership with the University of East London, explores the question of who (East) London is shaped for and how different actors contribute to that process.
Set within the Royal Docks, one of London’s key areas of transformation, the event will begin with a short walk around the UEL /docks area, followed by a discussion and networking. Bringing together perspectives from journalism, design, academia and development, the conversation will draw on Anna Minton’s work on the political economy of the city, alongside reflections on who we design for and who we do not design for in practice, and research on the urban history and transformation of the Royal Docks. It will also consider the role of commissioning and development in shaping the city, including how design ambitions, community expectations and financial pressures are balanced in delivering change in this diverse East London context.
